1099-INT for earned interest on Solo 401k bank account
I received Form 1099-INT interest earned statement from my Solo 401k bank account. Does the interest earned need to be reported on my tax return?
Check the following:
- The 401k bank account is established in the name of your 401k and using the EIN of the 401k
- Form 1099-INT should be issued to the 401k, not to you personally
- Form 1099-INT should also list the EIN of the 401k, not your Social Security Number
If the above is correct, then you would not include the interest on your personal tax return since your 401k earned the interest, not you. Since the 401k is a tax-exempt entity, the interest will not be taxable, and it would not need to be reported.
